Upcycling is so much fun with endless possibilities. We all have old clothes that we can’t let go. It’s probably a shirt that has a sentimental value to us, a dress you bought but haven’t worn, or that one pair of jeans that is so comfortable and yet worn out and faded that we just hold on to. With no formal background in fashion design, it is a challenge to put up a collection and know where to start from concept to putting the pieces together. Armed with the principles of art and design and with all the available materials, it gives me the freedom to play with colors, form and texture. I have incorporated aesthetics, comfort and practicality and each piece is uniquely its own. This collection is meant to showcase the different forms of art.

Chantille Eaton is a ready-to-wear fashion label for women. The Cretaceous Era of dinosaurs was the inspiration behind Chantille Eaton’s S/S 2017 Collection. The fossils hold a variety of interesting details that can be found in nature. The jagged edges of dinosaur fossils, and the hues of nature are a few of the elements found in the cretaceous period that have inspired the collection. He custom designed laser cut leather work featured in the collection was derived from the fossil shaped. The hand painted discharged textile artwork mimics archaeological excavations.

Iranian born and raised, Morvarid Rezaei Asl grew up in a country very influenced by its culture. Along with this, having spent a lot of time travelling as a child, Morvarid was also influenced by the different cultures and lifestyles she was exposed to, in which she likes to incorporate throughout her brand. Every collection Morvarid presents is connected to some form of culture that has inspired areas of the world while adding her own touch of modesty and edge to give a streetwear vibe. To view some of Morvarid’s recent work, check out her Instagram page mrvddesigns where she gives you a taste of her own Persian culture through the architect and tile work inspired collection.
